Design System - Using Atomic design practice for World renown healthcare device company
How it began
The healthcare industry Glaxo has to be relevant with the evolving technology without compromising the quality and standards. It is required to have digital language which translates their commitment and message consistently across all platforms. And our approach was to use atomic design as the design methodology.
Exploring Atomic Design System

Atomic design means creating a system that can come together to create elements that can be utilized over again. This was ideal for GSK which was global company,

a) Atoms, b) Molecules, c) Organisms, d) Templates & e) Pages
Before we start
Assets like Icons & Brand colors set a unique identity for any brand and provide user means to interact with the system more efficiently with recognisable pattern
Icons
Trelegy Ellipta is icon style at GSK, which is a style of icons that healthcare professionals and doctors are already familiar with. Icons and call-outs will primarily use the brand blue, however in instances that relate to secondary and accent colours, the appropriate colour may be used to support design consistency.

GSK Brand colours were core of atomic guideline and needs to be consistent & scalable across its various subrand
The process of starting with atoms
This visual language must be strong, easy to build, It has to be able to work on every screen!
The smallest functional unit is the ground upon which you're Design system takes shape. GSK already had well-defined brand and system guidelines in place but it was aging rapidly as they were not refreshed in last few years with Accessibility in mind.
